Thursday, September 19,  — TALK: Secrets to Collecting Art (or Just About Anything)

Cathedral Arts Project board member and published author Bob Weil shares tips and tricks about how he and his wife began and grew a collection of art systematically, thoughtfully, and on a budget. Learn some of the basic techniques for starting or enhancing your collecting journey, including identifying your passion, doing your research, establishing a budget, developing a plan, and displaying your collection. Questions welcome. Reception follows.

October–December — LITERARY FESTIVAL celebrating Willa Cather with the Castle and Cathedral District

Sunday, November 10 — CONCERT: Benedictine College Chamber Choir

Join Maestro/Professor Timothy Tharaldson and one of the Midwest’s finest chamber choirs in a varied program chosen especially with the Omaha Cathedral in mind. Reception follows.

Saturday, November 16 — LECTURE: Thomas Rogers Kimball Lecture 
An engaging lecture by former Nebraska capitol architect Bob Riley about the celebrated architect Thomas Rogers Kimball, who designed Saint Cecilia’s Cathedral and other Nebraska landmarks.

Sunday, November 24 — CONCERT: Saint Cecilia Cathedral Choir, with Omaha Chamber Music

Saint Cecilia’s Choir, among Omaha’s most exciting and venerable ensembles, joins with Omaha Chamber Music for a lively concert of diverse works, including music for voices and brass.

Introducing the ‘Light’ theme of this year’s Flower Festival, a show dedicated to the work of talented glass artists. All art is available for purchase.

One of the city’s longest-running and best-loved arts events, featuring this year’s theme of ‘Light’, with Nebraska’s most creative and distinguished floral artists. Watch for details of receptions and patron events.

Sunday, February 16— CONCERT: Bach Celebration with Dr. Marie Rubis Bauer

A popular annual organ concert, this year featuring the Cathedral’s own esteemed organist in a program showing the extensive influence of the greatest composer for the ‘King of Instruments.”

March 2025

Sunday, March 2 – Sunday, April 20 — ART SHOW: Saints Above, Sinners Below: Mexican and Spanish Colonial Devotional Art from 1720 to 1920

An exhibition of Mexican and South American art spanning two centuries and rarely seen in this region, including large Spanish Colonial paintings, Mexican retablos, and ex votos—the last of these often created by untrained artists for working class people in thanks for a miracle granted. A perfect complement to the Cathedral’s permanent collection of Spanish-American works.

LECTURE: Saints Above, Sinners Below: Mexican and Spanish Colonial Devotional Art from 1720 to 1920

University of Florida art historian Dr. Maya Stanfield-Mazzi explores the compelling background to works in our ‘Saints Above, Sinners Below’ show, including their styles, makers, and owners. (Saturday lecture is the same as the Thursday lecture, except in Spanish).

Thursday, March 27 — CONCERT: Westminster Cathedral Choir (from the UK)

A rare and exciting opportunity to hear the celebrated choir of men and boys from London’s Catholic Cathedral in a wide-ranging concert of their most popular repertory from their recent recordings. Experience the world-famous English choral tradition at its best. (ticketed event).

LECTURE: Reginald Mills Silby of Westminster and Omaha

In conjunction with the visit of Westminster Cathedral Choir, Dr. Kevin Vogt speaks about prominent musician Reginald Mills Silby, who was assistant director of the the Choir early in its history and later music director here at Saint Cecilia Cathedral of Omaha. Date & time to be determined.

April 2025

Thursday, April 17 — April Art Walk with our Castle and Cathedral District 

A last opportunity to see the exhibit ‘Mexican and Spanish Colonial Devotional Art’ before it closes on Easter Day.
